Special Contributor- Mrs. Zelia Gibson-Brown   Having been introduced to prayer in part 1 of the series, we now look at praying effectively. Prayer is a simple conversation. God communicates with us through His Word, we communicate with Him through prayer. Here are 6 steps for you to pray effectively:
  1. Prayer is a conversation between man and God.
When we have this conversation, a relationship is developed. The more we speak to the Lord, the deeper our relationship goes. God has always longe...

Part 1- An Introduction to Prayer

Written By Shantell Wellington April 24, 2020 - 0 Comment(s)

Prayer, simply defined in the biblical context, is communication with God. One may ask where did prayer originate and why this is the means by which we speak to God? The Trinity, three in one, is a deity. Its divine status is an immoral being. John 4:24 states God is a spirit and they that worship Him, must worship Him in spirit and in truth. This means humans, as moral beings cannot converse with God. The Connector Having concluded that God is a spirit and we are made in His likeness (Genesis 1:27), once we accept the Lord ...

The desire to change an aspect of our lives will require us to slowly step away from our normal. Change comes with discomfort.  April 14, 2019. I embarked on a new journey. I had previously been going to gym in 2018 and fell off track. The disappointment of that would linger in my mind but I still would not fix the problem. We can easily detect the things we want to change about ourselves but taking action seem phantom. I would recall the reasons I started initially but they weren’t enough to make me recommit. I would find excuses ...

Obedience will require some level of discomfort, and it was an uneasy yet highly inspired Shantel Wellington who took to social media to share the story behind her gym membership and, in doing so, encouraging people, Christians and unbelievers alike, to desist from accepting abnormalities in behavior and feelings in their lifestyles. In a video posted to Facebook some time ago, Wellington shared that she began working out because she was very close to being diagnosed with hypertension because of the high-pressure environment she works in and...

‘When I consider Your heavens and works of Your hands.. NOBODY LIKE YOU LORD’ – Maranda Curtis Reflection: He is the most Holy ONE. In His marvelous power, on day TWO, He created the sky. On day THREE, He called forth dry land to produce vegetation. He was, number FOUR, the odd man in the fire that saved the Hebrew boys. He then, unfathomably, took the lunch  of a little boy, which contained two fish and FIVE loaves, multiplied it to feed five thousand people. SIX, He is the Messiah. SEVEN, He is the author of completion. He comple...

You are beautiful. You are great. You are strong. No good thing will He withhold from you. You are called. You are predestined. You are chosen. You are purposed. You will not become dormant, But will remain active on the path for which you were ordained. Like lava, from your core, you will burn with the fire of God. Your lips will make utterances unknown to man. Your hands will be a weapon which confuses the enemy and thwarts his plans. Your feet will tread into new territories. You are the chosen one w...

We can’t fathom God, and I think it’s about time we stop trying to. Right? Recently I’ve been reading the book of Chronicles and something blew me away. In 1 Chronicles 28, we see David’s plan for the temple of God, down to the ‘t’.  He exclaimed in vs 2 that he had in his heart to build a temple, as a resting place for the ark of the covenant, but was instructed by God, “Not to build a house for my name.” The Lord would have then instructed him of the chosen one Solomon (v 6), who should build the temple. I then had this re...

They are words of wisdom, When seeking souls for the kingdom. Sharing an experience with an unsaved, So they know we were once there, But gave it up one day. They are the tales of the trials we go through, Of how we prayed and God delivered, Of how He is not there sometimes when we want him, But comes right on time. He said, “Tell I you by whose authority I do these things.” So who are we to question Him, When He’s just trying to take us under His wings? They are the experiences that encourage our broth...

Jesus at the Center

A friend I recently met said to me, “The problem we face in this world today is, society dictates that your partner should be the center of your world.” I mean we all have things to do daily, right? Especially with our jobs being so demanding. He couldn’t be more correct. That statement elicited a wave of emotions from me. It dawned on me that this is exactly how we think as young people. We want the world to revolve around us, thus making our partners the focal points of our lives. We become so attached that our very happiness is hin...
